Introduction
This guide provides a general framework for deploying the Hi Marley Connect browser extension via Google Admin Console. It serves as a recommendation that IT teams can follow, but actual deployments may vary based on specific organizational requirements, browser versions, and system configurations. Carriers may encounter differences depending on their infrastructure and software versions. Please validate configurations against your internal policies and test before full deployment. See more information in Google's Admin Console Documentation.
Step 1. Ensure Users are Added into a Group or Organizational Unit
- Sign in to the Google Admin console with an administrator account
- Within the Admin console, navigate to Menu > Directory > Organizational Unit
- Find the organization you want to modify and select Create new organizational unit
- In the Name of organizational unit field, enter a new group name
- You can add the optional fields Description and Parental Organizational Unit if desired
- Select Create
Step 2. Force Install Apps and Extensions
- In the Google Admin console navigate to Menu > Devices > Chrome > Apps & Extensions
- At the top of the page there are two types of installation, select Users & Browsers
- On the left, select who will be installing Hi Marley Connect
- Under Users & Browsers select the desired Child Organizational Unit or Group (see Step 3 below before mass deployment of all users)
- To apply the installation to all users, leave the top Organizational Unit selected
- Find Hi Marley Connect and select the extension
- In the panel on the right, beneath Installation Policy, select Force Install + pin to ChromeOS taskbar
- Select Save
Step 3. Verify Installation of Extension
When extensions are pinned to a users' taskbar, the Google Admin console builds configuration text that is sent in a JSON strong for the Google ExtensionSetting Policy. Admins should ensure this JSON string is valid on a small number of browsers before deploying to a group or organizational unit. To do this:
- On a Google Admin managed device, navigate to chrome://policy
- Select Reload Policies
- Check the box that reads Show policies with no value set
- Ensure that the status of the ExentsionSetting policy is set to OK
- Within the ExtensionPolicy, select show more
- Within the value field, ensure there are no errors within the JSON code
